Why We Support St. Jude

St. Jude Walk - Charlotte, NC

Alex's Angels

Why I Support St. Jude

St. Jude saved our daughter Alex's life.  Everyone involved with this organization is an angel on Earth. You can be an angel, too!

Alex was a spirited and joyful 4 year-old when we took her to her doctor for a rash in June 2021.  Her pediatrician noticed that her belly was a little big and told us to get it looked at. Of course, we thought it was from a good appetite!

But we quickly found out it was cancer - a Wilm's tumor in her right kidney. Fortunately, it was caught at Stage I.  Usually, this type of cancer has a standard treatment plan that is very successful. So our St. Jude doctors removed the kidney with the tumor and started her on this standard chemo treatment.

After finishing Alex's chemo treatment in December, we were busy planning her bell-ringing celebration for beating the cancer when we took Alex back in for final CT scans.  The results floored everyone, including her doctors.  Instead of disappearing, the cancer had not responded to chemo at all. It had spread to her lungs and was now Stage IV. This was devastating news, and we had never been more afraid.

Spreading like this was rare for Wilm's Tumor, but thanks to the amazing brain trust at St. Jude, we had a plan! So she started a new, harsher chemo protocol (more time in the hospital) and cutting-edge radiation at St. Jude in Memphis.  Thanks to St. Jude, we were able to try a newer form of radiation for lung treatment that spares the other organs in the chest from damage.

After 6 months of this new treatment protocol, her body was cleared of cancer! Praise God and his angel's on earth at St. Jude!

Alex finished all treatment in July and finally got those final clean CT scans in August 2022!  And now, we have been in remission for a whole year!

St. Jude is credited for bringing the childhood cancer survival rate from 4% to more than 80% (and even higher for certain types of cancer). They will not stop until the survival rate is 100%. They truly provide for every aspect of life during treatment so that there are NO barriers for any child to receive the best treatment available.

$30 provides a family with meals for one day in the St. Jude cafeteria. Please donate today!

That’s why I’ve signed up to fundraise for the St. Jude Walk/Run. This September, I’m joining the nationwide movement to honor Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and support those who need us most — the kids of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Can I count on your donation to help me reach my goal?

Thank you for supporting me and the lifesaving work happening at St. Jude today.

Let’s cure childhood cancer. Together.
