This September, I’m joining the nationwide movement to in memory of my son Juan and in honor of Javier and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
My oldest son Juan was diagnosed in July of 2012 with a brain tumor here in Phoenix. We weren't given much hope… Until we arrived at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis in September of 2012. During his 6 years battling cancer at St. Jude, Juan relapsed twice, and each time the cancer returned in a more aggressive form than before. St. Jude gave Juan 6 more years, and he fought every day, but sadly Juan lost his battle in June of 2018. Through all of this St. Jude never sent me a bill. They also started following Javier, Juan's little brother, for genetics and to this day, we still travel to Memphis for preventative care. We lost the glue that held our family together, but I am so thankful for the time St. Jude gave us with Juan. The memories we made, the time we spent together, and the support they provided for Javier and I is something I can never repay them for.
This year, I want to raise $2,100, Juan would currently be 21yrs old. I always wonder who he’d be today, what he would be doing… Will you help me honor Juan and reach our goal. Donations from fundraising events like the St. Jude Walk/Run support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and thanks to those donations families will never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food, because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
Your support makes a powerful, lifesaving impact. Let’s inspire kindness and find hope because together, nothing is impossible.
Can I count on your donation to help me reach my goal?
Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – so they can focus on helping their child live. Because of our generous donors, St. Jude can provide children cutting-edge treatments not covered by insurance, at no cost to families.
When St. Jude opened in 1962, childhood cancer was largely considered incurable. Since then, St. Jude has helped push the overall survival rate from 20% to more than 80%, and we won't stop until no child dies from cancer. Thank you for supporting me and the lifesaving work happening at St. Jude today.
Let’s cure childhood cancer. Together.
