Nine years ago, my daughter and her husband received news that no parent wants to hear. Their seven year old daughter, Annaleigh, had a brain tumor that doctors in Louisiana said was inoperable. However, the surgeon there recommended that they consult with the doctors at St. Jude. Luckily the surgeon at St. Jude was able to remove the tumor in two surgeries. While Annaleigh has recovered, and is now an intelligent, beautiful young lady, she still heads to Memphis once a year to be sure the tumor has not grown back.
My family was blessed by the caring doctors, nurses, therapists and everyone else at St. Jude. Seeing other families deal with their young children going through such terrible diagnoses was heartbreaking. One young mother I met was there with her young baby, trying to be positive but not knowing what to expect. The staff at the hospital were so compassionate, treating both the young child and the mother with the utmost care.
Because of our experiences, I’m joining the nationwide movement to honor Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and support those who need us most — the kids of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®. By participating in the St. Jude Walk, I am helping to cure childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Can I count on your donation to help me reach my goal?
Because of generous donors, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – so they can focus on helping their child live. By donating to my fundraising efforts, you are helping to make that possible.
Thank you for supporting me and the lifesaving work happening at St. Jude today.
