I'm excited to be back running, and to be running for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This year I will be doing a half marathon in Greenville, SC on October 26, 2024. It's part of the Spinx Run Fest. I will combine fundraising with training with visiting family in Greenville. Not a bad combo. Throw in a completely new course for me, and hopefully decent weather, and it should be a great race day!
I honestly am not sure what number this is in terms of half marathons. I've done plenty--lots at Disney, a few in Virginia Beach, and at least one in DC. It's not quite up to the 19 marathons (still hoping to hit #20 at some point), but it's a decent number. My first race over Labor Day weekend in 2005 was the VA Beach Half Marathon. I remember thinking I was not going to finish. Once I did finish, I was royally ticked that I had already signed up for the Disney full in January 2006 because I really never wanted to run another distance race again. Great example of first impressions are not necessarily always right! (It didn't help that I was undertrained for health reasons and it was SMOKIN' hot the day of the race. I now know how to train, even if my body doesn't want to, and I try to avoid hot races like the plague.)
My ask of you is to support my race by donating to St. Jude's. Did you know:
- Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
- Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
- St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children. In fact, many of these discoveries benefit patients of all ages.
Donate today to help me reach my goal. Even when the race is over, the fight to end childhood (and adult!) cancer continues.
My goal this season is $30,000. You have been very generous in the past, and we usually exceed $30,000 by a smidge. Fingers crossed we can do it again. Thank you!!
