My name is Jhunn "Jack" Velasco, and today, I've decided to become a St. Jude Hero!
Most of you who know me know that I've had a rough time physically during the past few years, and I wouldn't be able to get to where I am today without the help and loving support of the family and friends who stuck with me the entire way. Now I'm back on my way in attempting to claim the Abbot Six Star Medal, an achievement that involves running six major world marathons around the world!
With the blessings I've received in mind, I have chosen to give that energy back to the community and run for a reason bigger than myself by fundraising for the kids and families at St. Jude. Most of us have known or lost someone with cancer - I personally lost two uncles to this disease and I miss them greatly. Cancer is debilitating enough already and it's even more tragic knowing that afflicted kids must spend their childhoods enduring this devastating disease, with some not making it all the way. These kids *need* our help.
Because of this, I am training to cross the finish line on race day and with your donation we can cross the fundraising finish line together because the money you donate helps find a cure for childhood cancer.
Did you know:
- Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
- Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
- St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
Donate today to help me reach my goal. Even when the race is over, the fight to end childhood cancer continues.
Maraming salamat and much love to everyone supporting me on this journey! Let's do this!
