Teresita Sagala Galvez, age 80, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 3, 2023.
Teresita was born on October 15, 1942 in San Pablo, Philippines to parents Felix and Eudosia (Brion) Sagala and raised in the area with her brother, Gordon. She graduated from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines with a bachelor’s degree. In 1973, Teresita immigrated to Toronto, Canada and shortly thereafter moved once again to Ann Arbor, Michigan where she would remain. She spent 29 years working as a medical technician at the University of Michigan Hospital in the pathology department.
In her spare time, Teresita enjoyed playing games on her iPad, taking in the sights and sounds of the local casinos, shopping to spoil her loved ones, and finding new restaurants to eat at. She also had a deep love for travel and loved exploring abroad. Recent trips with family and friends include Australia, Russia, and various parts of Europe.
She was the loving mother of two sons, Eric Galvez and Oliver Galvez, the former wife of Joe Galvez, and sister of Gordon (Tessie) Sagala. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Visitation will take place on Monday, April 10, 2023 at Nie Family Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Road, Ann Arbor, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 2250 E. Stadium Blvd, Ann Arbor, at 2:00 pm. Family and friends are welcome to begin gathering at 1:30 pm. In Lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St.Jude Children’s Research Hospital to honor the families of children with complex medical conditions.
Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago.
