My name is John Mathieson, or some of you may know me as KARMA.
On April 6th, 2021, we lost Joseph Quinn Zatyko to a tragic accident. An incident that reminded us all how fragile and precious life is, something Joe understood well. Joe lived his life with passion, above all else Joe was passionate about Super Smash Bros, and it was the community around the game that made him love the game so much. Contacted by members of this community, that loves Joe as much as he loved them, I was encouraged to ask Joe's family if they needed or would appreciate financial assistance, specifically in regards to funeral services. Fortunately, Joe's family is doing alright in that regard, and instead asked for that generous offer of support to be put towards a good cause and asked me to choose a charity on their behalf.
I considered what Joe would've wanted, and tried to find something that would both make an impact and would capture what was most important to Joe. We all remember him as a goofy, fun-loving, and curious person. It was really important to Joe to never take life too seriously, and to keep a degree of childlike wonder, to not let the dark things in life weigh you down. Joe was competitive, and always fought back against the hardest things in life, and he would encourage others to do the same.
St. Jude's offers children the chance to fight back against tragedy, to preserve their life and give them the chance they deserve to thrive and chase their dreams. In memory of Joe, and all the love and energy he gave to his friends, family and his found family in the smash community, please consider donating to St. Jude. Let's spread the love that he gave to the children and families that need it the most.
How your donation helps:
- Thanks you donors like you, no family ever receives a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
