RLI’s roots with St. Jude go back 33 years, just one year after the start of St. Jude Runs. RLI’s involvement started with Joe Colosimo, a hard-charging executive with RLI at the time and a passionate advocate to rally the company behind St. Jude in the ‘80s and ‘90s. Joe was challenged by Gene Pratt (founder of St. Jude Runs with Mike McCoy) to get involved by going down to Memphis to see the work St. Jude was doing to treat children with cancer.

Joe served on the board of the local St. Jude affiliate for several years under the enthusiastic leadership of Jim Maloof (former mayor of Peoria, Illinois) before retiring from RLI in 1992. St. Jude Founder Danny Thomas used to say to Joe, “You raised that kind of money in the cow town of Peoria!”

Since then, RLI has continued its relationship with St. Jude by hosting company tailgates, Jeans for St. Jude days, and yearly employee participation in St. Jude Runs. This fall, RLI employees from the corporate office in Peoria and more than 50 branch locations will be invited to participate in the nationwide St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer.
