In August 2011, our family was given the news that no family wants to hear…..your loved one “has cancer”.  After numerous brain surgeries, plenty of doses of chemotherapy and 2 rounds of radiation, we found that our journey would ultimately take us to St. Jude Children Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. At St. Judes, we were given the possibility of hope. Unfortunately, our personal battle with cancer abruptly ended in May 2014. However, since then, I have vowed to fundraise to support the organization that never questioned our inability to contribute financially towards medical expenses, housing or food. Making memories. Supporting a mission. That’s why our team has signed up to fundraise for the St. Jude Walk/Run. This September, we’re joining the nationwide movement to honor Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and support those who need us most — the kids of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

When St. Jude opened in 1962, childhood cancer was considered incurable. Since then, treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more than 80 percent.

And because St. Jude shares the breakthroughs it makes, every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
