Connor's Cure
When your child is diagnosed with a life threatening disease your whole world gets turned upside down.
Connor was just 20 months old when we were told that he had cancer. We tried to figure out how to get Connor the treatment he needed, where could we go, how would the treatment affect him, would he ever get out of his hospital bed, how would this affect his brother, how were we going to pay for it all, and hundreds of other questions flooded through.
With guidance, that we will be forever grateful for, we started Connor on a St. Jude treatment protocol. Over time Connor made several trips to Memphis for treatment and checkups. He grew from that tiny child in the hospital bed into a clever, charming, kind-hearted, thoughtful, and loving boy. He had hopes and dreams for his future. Sadly, Connor lost his battle with cancer shortly before his 8th birthday.
So the big question, why do I support St. Jude?
The answer is simple, Hope.
Through all of Connor’s battles, St. Jude was there to help. Countless trips to Memphis, Doctor visits, procedures, food while traveling, lodging. Everything we did with St. Jude was covered by the generous donations of other people that have helped support their mission. We never saw a bill. That meant that we got to focus on Connor and making sure that we were living our best life with him while we could. We had the chance to Hope for a better future for him, and for all children fighting this disease. We had a chance to make memories with him, watch him grow, and be a family with him. We had almost six years with him after his diagnosis because of St. Jude and through it all we have had Hope.
In 1962, when Danny Thomas opened St. Jude, the overall survival rate of childhood cancer was just 20%. Through their research, collaboration, and dedication, the survival rate is now more than 80%. That is cause for Hope! They still have a long road ahead and a lot of families to help, but there is most certainly Hope.
Please help us support St. Jude and the work that they do.
