Why we support St. Jude
Megan Strong
We are Annie, Rachel, and Olivia. This is Rachel and Olivia’s 4th year doing the St. Jude Run/Walk, while this is Annie's second. Rachel and Olivia started fundraising in 2020 during Covid. We sometimes did two different fundraisers at the same time. Annie joined us last year which was the year of 2022. Rachel and Olivia started out fundraising 120 dollars the first year, and last year with Annie’s help, they raised 2,242 dollars. We do this to honor our best friend’s memory who went to St. Jude and help other families going through health concerns for their kids.
About Us
We are 16 and going into our junior year of high school. We have all participated in our school’s Mini Thon. We have been best friends since 5th grade and have done many different fundraisers together.
What is St.Jude?
St.Jude is a non-profit children's hospital that helps families in one of the scariest moments of their lives. St.Jude treats children from infants to 21 years old. They are most commonly known for treating cancer but they also treat other things like blood disorders and other life-threatening diseases. St. Jude helped the survival rate of 20% go to 90%. St.Jude won’t rest until they get the survival rate to 100%. As previously stated, St.Jude is a non-profit organization meaning that they do not charge any of the families for treatment, food, transportation, and so many other things that comes with a life-threatening diagnosis. Due to this, they rely on donations to keep doing this. To get funds to do this they have donations open year round as well as do events like the St.Jude Run/Walk and Inspiration 4 which at least one of us have always done one of these fundraisers. These funds raised during fundraisers get put into the hospital to make it a non-profit. We do this event every September due to September being Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. In 2012, president Obama proclaimed September to be Childhood Cancer Awareness Month due to pediatric cancer being the number one cause of death of kids under 14.
If your family is in the position to donate from now to late September to donate to the St. Jude Run/Walk, it would be greatly appreciated. If between now and then you are not in a position to donate you can do a donation to a non-event if you would like. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask us, we are happy to answer any and all questions that you have for us. You can contact us through social media, text messages, or email.
