In 1980 my parents heard the words no parent ever wants to hear - "your child has cancer". But my parents also heard, 'why fight it, just let it be'. My doctor's experience at the time had never been successful and they didn't think there was hope for success. My parents were not going to just let it be and with Dr. Essary's help they found St. Jude and St. Jude had a place for me and accepted me into their care.
We could tell that St. Jude was different from the moment we walked through the doors...a family that had been given no hope days earlier was now greeted with an army of doctors, nurses, support staff, custodians, etc. ready help me fight for a cure. And we won - Now 43 years later, I'm still doing well and joining others as we fight to find a cure for childhood cancer and other diseases.
You too can help in the fight by joining us this September or making a donation to my team for the St. Jude Walk Run. I’m joining this nationwide movement to honor Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and support those who need us most — the kids of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.
Can I count on your donation to help me reach my goal?
Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – so they can focus on helping their child live. Because of our generous donors, St. Jude can provide children cutting-edge treatments not covered by insurance, at no cost to families.
When St. Jude opened in 1962, childhood cancer was largely considered incurable. Since then, St. Jude has helped push the overall survival rate from 20% to more than 80%, and we won't stop until no child dies from cancer. Thank you for supporting me and the lifesaving work happening at St. Jude today.
Let’s cure childhood cancer. Together.
