Why We Support St. Jude
Pepper's Fighters
PEPPER'S FIGHTERS.
This year marks the 3rd annual St. Jude Walk/Run for the Somerset Panthers! This initiative was originally founded by Sebastian Suescun, a proud Panther alum from the Class of 2026. Read below to learn why this cause is so deeply meaningful to our community and how you can help us make a difference!
A Message from Sebastian Suescun
"When I was 6 years old, I was diagnosed with medulloblastoma—a type of brain tumor located near the area that controls muscle movement. After an initial, successful surgery at my local hospital, doctors warned us that the tumor could return. That was when they recommended I go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for treatment.
That is where I experienced firsthand the incredible work St. Jude does for kids like me.
From the moment you arrive, you realize it isn't just a regular hospital. The vibrant colors and beautiful artwork create a warm environment that truly feels like home. But what amazed me most—even as a 6-year-old—was seeing children fighting cancer who were smiling, laughing, and enjoying themselves. Beyond the millions of lives St. Jude saves, their ability to bring joy to children in the hospital is their greatest strength. Thanks to amazing volunteers and donors, every day brought something special—from massive events like a Target-sponsored dog show to simple, fun bingo nights with prizes.
As a child, I didn't understand how expensive medical care was. Now that I’m older, I realize chemotherapy can cost up to $12,000 per session. Paying for daily treatment over 7 months would have been an impossible financial burden for my family. Thankfully, St. Jude covered all of my medical expenses, food, and living necessities.
I could write for hours about everything St. Jude has done for my family, but above all, I am eternally grateful that they saved my life."
Our Goal: $2,000
While $2,000 is a significant milestone, it is just a fraction of the millions St. Jude spends daily to ensure no family receives a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food. Every single dollar counts—whether you donate $1 or $100, your contribution directly impacts a child's life.
Student Volunteer Hours
We know many students want to help but may not be able to donate financially. You can still support the cause and earn volunteer hours!
A list of eligible tasks and volunteer opportunities will be posted soon, so be sure to check back frequently for updates.
Spread the Word!
Tell everyone—moms, dads, siblings, aunts, uncles, neighbors, and friends! Many people are eager to support a worthy cause but don't know where to start. By sharing our page, you help inform others about St. Jude's life-saving work.
The more people who join our team, the closer we get to our goal—and the more awareness we raise to fight childhood cancer together!
