Last year, my perspective on medical research changed forever. After learning that I carry a BRCA2 mutation, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Because of decades of research into genetics, cancer screening, pathology, surgery, and treatment, my cancer was found incredibly early. I had options, answers, and, most importantly for someone thrown into a life-changing diagnosis: hope.

Every doctor's appointment, every pathology report, every treatment recommendation was only possible because researchers of yesterday and today refuse to stop asking questions and searching for better ways to detect, treat, and prevent cancer. Their work changed my prognosis, my life, and the lives of the people who love me.

That experience left me with an immense appreciation for the power of medical research. Progress happens because people dedicate their lives to discovering better treatments, improving quality of life, and giving patients and families more time together.

That's why I'm proud to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and the nationwide movement to honor Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and support those who need us most. While my own experience was very different from that of the children and families they serve, I believe deeply in the importance of investing in research that saves lives and gives hope. Every breakthrough starts somewhere, but it won't exist without someone first choosing to support the work.
