There are moments in your life you never forget; the first time I traveled without my parents, my first time driving with my Tio, holding my nephews and nieces for the first time. There are also moments like when my sister-in-law told me my niece Sophie had a brain tumor. In that moment, what I remember feeling was confusion and shock. Where do you go from there? Thankfully there was St. Jude. My niece did not make it, most with her cancer don't but St. Jude gave us something that we desperately needed at that time which was hope. It was a difficult time, my niece had just turned 14, we didn't know what was going to happen. That hope helped us to support her as she needed to be supported. My niece was funny, she loved a bargain. She loved that everything (food, transportation, lodging, treatment) was all free. It is thanks to the generosity of people that during one of the hardest times in a family's life that they don't need to worry about those things. During her time at St. Jude she met so many people who showed her compassion and gave her support, who gave my brother and sister-in-law support. I am forever thankful for what they did for them. My niece was part of a trial to help other children diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. St. Jude's and other cancer hospitals are the reason for so many cures, and I hope many more will come out of their research as well as the contribution Sophie gave so that others can be cured. My walk is in memory of Sophie bonita and the love and generosity she left us with.
Can I count on your donation to help me reach my goal?
Because of generous donors, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – so they can focus on helping their child live. By donating to my fundraising efforts, you are helping to make that possible.
Thank you for supporting me and the lifesaving work happening at St. Jude today.
