I am pretty sure I have answered this question a few thousand times, but it seems like every time I turn around, there is a new answer. As I took part in the Bloomington to Peoria run on the day of the Telethon on August 1st, I met the mother of a new St. Jude patient who was just diagnosed on June 1st ... so she is yet another reason why I support St. Jude! My prayer is that she will be a success story just like my buddy Ty, who I met at the finish line of the 2023 Walk/Run (see picture above).
It would be really easy to sit back and rest on the success of the Telethon where we raised a record amount for the Kids and my total was the highest amount I have ever raised. But then I ran with this new patient Mom and saw her emotions and realized, resting is not an option. So, I am going to lace up the running shoes again and run a 10K for the Kids. I have received some amazingly generous donations since the Telethon and since everything ends up in the same bank account for the benefit of the Kids of St. Jude, I am crediting those post-Telethon donations to this event. Therefore, I am setting my goal for this event at $100,000 since those post-Telethon gifts were so generous and got us 2/3rds of the way already!
All gifts are important! As I mentioned in an interview during the Telethon, a microscope used in a St. Jude laboratory costs well more than most donors can afford to invest, but a petri dish costs a mere 50 cents. A microscope without the petri dish isn’t going to enable St. Jude researchers to discover the treatment that might save a child’s life and a bunch of petri dishes without a microscope isn’t going to help either. It is critical we have investors at every giving level!!!
How would you feel if you bought the petri dish that one of those St. Jude researchers uses to discover the treatment that will save hundreds of kids now and in the future!!! I hope you will consider investing in the research and in the treatments that are made possible by that research!
On behalf of the Kids, I thank you for your consideration!!!
