As a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE), I am committed to supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. TKE has committed to raising $10 million dollars in 10 years to name the Bone Marrow Transplant & Cellular Therapy Research Floor.
Not only has TKE pushed me to support St. Jude, I have also had my own share of experiences with cancer. To begin, my mother was diagnosed with Stage II Breast Cancer when I was 13. She was fortunate to go through the process with ease and she continues to live a happy life. My father, then, was diagnosed with throat cancer when I was 18, only to be diagnosed with three other cancers throughout his body when I was 21. While he is still on the road to recovery we are fortunate enough to know he will be okay. Finally, I had cancer on my appendix when I was 20. It was a very easy process, but I am still under closer surveillance due to the severity of the type of cancer.
While St. Jude did not directly help my family or myself, I know how hard it is for family and friends to watch a loved one go through something so horrific. I aim to help change people's lives one step at a time, one dollar at a time. Families that find themselves in the care of St. Jude have an opportunity to be a family, and not worry about expenses. It is crucial that families can be families in such trying times.
You can help me reach my fundraising goal for the kids of St. Jude, who are living with and/or recovering from cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
How YOU are helping:
- Thanks to donors like you, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
- Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to over 80% since it opened nearly 50 years ago.
Please help me help those in need! Please help me keep families as families! Please help me erase cancer.
