Meet Tayde

Leukemia

Tayde is a free-spirited artist whose paintings are full of vivid colors and whimsy. When she was just 7 years old, tests in her native Mexico revealed she suffered from acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a type of blood cancer. Tayde’s family was devastated, but they found hope at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital- not once, not twice, but three times.

After Tayde finished her initial treatment at St. Jude, which lasted two-and-a-half years, she relapsed twice. Her continuing treatment included further chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Though treatment was often difficult, Tayde’s doctors and nurses never left her side. She completed treatment in 1995 and remains in remission today.

Tayde and her husband, Scott, have two beautiful children, Tayde Sofia and Jack. “Our children are the best things that could have happened,” Tayde said. “There was a time that I didn’t think I’d be able to have a child. But St. Jude gave me my life, and because of St. Jude, I am a mother.”

Today, Tayde works for ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude, dedicating her professional life to giving back to the mission that saved hers.
