Yes, I'm running and fundraising again - my 22nd consecutive year! - for the kids of St. Jude.
(Well, okay, fine. No, I didn't actually "run" last year, since I had back surgery a few days earlier ... but I did end up walking 19 miles in a circuitous route around Bloomington, past my local donor's homes, on a gorgeous fall Saturday a couple months later).
This year will be really memorable for me, as BOTH of my sons are going to join the Run. This will be Aaron's 3rd year and Andrew's 1st (he took up running for fun and exercise last fall). The Martin Men are going to get some serious bonding time together on Saturday, July 17th as we run, sweat, ache, get sunburned (and blisters), and compete (I mean, really, does anyone really think they can out-mileage their old man?!?!) as we make our way from Bloomington-Normal to Peoria in this year's St. Jude Run.
Some of you have generously been on this journey with me for each of my 21 prior runs. Many others have enthusiastically contributed over the years since that initial run in 2000, and some of you reading this may never have donated before. I'm asking ALL OF YOU to consider making a tax-deductible contribution to help me reach my fundraising goal of $3,000 for the kids of St. Jude who are battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
As many of you may know, patient families NEVER receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food - because all a family should worry about when their child is sick is being there for them, helping them beat it. And every dollar I raise will go DIRECTLY to that cause.
St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer, and neither will I. Will you please support me by making a donation (if you're wary of online giving, you can mail a check to me payable to "St. Jude Runs").
