This year has found our communities, country, and the world facing some uncomfortable and challenging times. In the past 3 months, the Laine family has truly learned that, too often, we overlook our gift of good health and social freedom. The current pandemic has certainly affected St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital – From changes in their visiting policy to canceling all patient and family events until further notice. It’s hard to imagine how families are navigating nursing their children back to health with the added uncertainties. Team Laine is here to help!
This summer marks our 9th year for the 187 mile run from St. Louis to Peoria to raise money for the families at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital! As many of our friends and family know, we look forward to this weekend pretty much all year! Unfortunately, St. Jude is requiring us to take the run “virtual” due to health concerns. Although we do not get to join our extended “family” for a long weekend of laughter, tears, and running - It will never stop us from fundraising! In keeping with the running spirit, we have each pledged to run 187 miles between now and what would have been our normal run weekend. (It is no secret that Cliff hates running and he only does it forthe kids, so he isn’t too excited about putting in all of the miles without the help of our team!)
When people think of St Jude, they think of children with cancer. They are on the cutting edge for cancer treatment – That’s true. But, they treat countless hematological diseases and genetic disorders. Every year brings great advancements for treatment of any number of childhood diseases and that is why we will continue to run until the hospital has to close its doors due to a lack of patients.
We always run to honor Cliff’s childhood friend Matt who lost his battle with leukemia 19years ago. As we have every year, we celebrate his life and run with his spirit in our hearts.
Thank you for your generosity and support -
Cliff and Anne Laine
