Once again we are preparing for the 39th annual St. Jude Memphis to Peoria Run! This will be Jon’s 19th year and Jessi’s 12th year running for the children of St. Jude. We begin running at the hospital in Memphis Tennessee on July 14th and 465 miles later we return to Peoria to begin the telethon on July 18th.
Danny Thomas founded St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in 1962 with the dream that “no child should die in the dawn of life.” At that time the survival rate for childhood cancer was less than 20%. Since that time the overall survival rate is 80% and St. Jude has dedicated itself to finding cures and saving children. No family is prepared to hear the words “your child has cancer”, but St. Jude provides the best care possible. Families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food. St. Jude shares all its research and discoveries so that doctors can save children not only within its own doors but around the world.
Every year we run in memory of our sister Amy who passed away of AML (leukemia) at the age of 12. Amy was sweet and caring, always thinking of others before herself. The strength and selflessness she displayed while fighting cancer has inspired to us to run. She was a friend to everyone she met and was always found with a smile. We have been blessed with four healthy children – Cecelia, Elsie, Jack & Sadie. We know there are many families at St. Jude praying for the same thing, a healthy, cancer free child. No donation is too small! Thank you for your continued donations, prayers and support.
