I am dedicating my St Louis to Peoria St Jude run to Tessa Sutton. She is the daughter of my long time friend Rich Sutton and his wife Michelle. Funny thing is I have always admired Tessa's sports commitment and I was always training hard so my times were faster than her road racing times. Below is her story.
On May 27, 2021, after Tessa's high school soccer game she went to urgent care to have a lingering pain in her right side checked.
The nurse stated that she had been in conversations with the radiologist reading the x-ray and was going to have us immediately go to the hospital as a direct admit for further testing. Tessa would be admitted to the pediatric oncology unit. That is where this horrible journey began.
The diagnosis was a high grade Pleomorphic Sarcoma. The chemo will be done inpatient because of all the potential side effects which need to be closely monitored. The hope is to shrink the tumor as much as possible in order to have surgery remove it entirely.
On June 13th, she was admitted for placement of a chemo port and then taken to the pediatric oncology unit to begin chemo.
Please keep Tessa and our entire family in your prayers. Pray for effective treatment with minimal side effects and complete removal of the tumor.
