Pictured above: Nyomi Vincent, 7 monthsThe 39th annual St. Jude Memphis to Peoria Run will not include visits to St. Jude in Memphis or the telethon at the Peoria Civic Center, instead participants will run individually in their own communities. There will be runners in multiple locations on the road 24 hours a day during the four-day event.
My first year on the run I was running for Tammy Jackson a St. Jude patient, a friend of my oldest daughter, a soccer player I coached, and a neighbor. I was running to support Tammy in her fight with childhood cancer. My third year on the run I met with Tammy in the St. Jude ICU in Memphis and committed that I would keep the fight going for other St. Jude patients and families even after she no longer could. This year on my nineteenth year I am running to support Nyomi Vincent, daughter of Jason and Shelby Vincent. Jason and Shelby are friends to my youngest daughter and members of my community. Nyomi’s entire life has been as a St. Jude patient being treated at the Midwest Affiliate in Peoria, IL. I now am running for the next generation of patients and families and realize how similar this is to my first year. I have always understood that this is why Tammy wanted me to keep running so that future generations would have a better chance at remission and recovery than she did.
Thank you in advance for your donations, prayers, and words of encouragement and thank you for helping me keep Tammy Jackson’s wish alive as I run for her, Nyomi, and all the other St. Jude families and patients.
