Cancer is the second leading cause of death in children under the age of 15 in the United States. The American Cancer society estimates that 10,270 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed this year in children alone, and of that number about 1,190 will not survive.
In 2003 that seemingly small percentage became a reality in our lives when our daughter Anna was just 3 years old and diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. When the doctors at our local hospital had done all that they could for her, Brian and I brought Anna to St. Jude's in Memphis to participate in a clinical trial. From the moment we stepped onto their campus the staff took care of not only Anna but our entire family. From the compassionate care that Anna received, to a family counselor, and even a place to stay, St. Jude's was always there to do whatever they could to help us.
Our Anna did not survive her cancer and passed away at just 4 years old but from our time at the hospital we learned how dedicated St. Jude Children's Research Hospital was to ending this disease and making the fight easier for the children and their families. St. Jude is not only a leader in cancer research but they also take care of all expenses for their patients while undergoing treatment. Brian and I have made it our mission to do whatever we can to help another child and another family in their own struggle and once again our family and friends have rallied around us to help as we raise money for such an outstanding cause. Team members from Anna's Flying Pigs will be running or walking in an event on December 7th in Memphis but all we are asking of you is a donation to support the hospital in their tremendous efforts to erase childhood cancer. Your donation today can provide so much for another child fighting cancer and for the future of our children.
Together, our team wants to do more than run. We want to work to support the live-saving mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
We're fundraising while we train for our race so we can make a difference in the lives of kids with cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Join our team and help us reach our fundraising goal for the kids and families of St. Jude!
