2020 Bank of America Chicago Marathon

In October 2019 our once healthy 8 month old baby girl was diagnosed with infant acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Our entire world came to a stop while we decided how we were going to go to battle. After many long hours of research, phone calls, and meetings with doctors we decided if we had to gamble we wanted to go where the best in the world were. October 17 Gracie and I packed our bags and flew 500 miles to Memphis so we could fight this cancer. Dad, Rilee and Traxton stayed home and tried to continue life as normal as possible.

We have been through 5 bone marrow biopsies, 11 lumbar punctures, 2 surgeries, and more rounds of chemo therapy then I can count. As of our last bone marrow biopsy Gracie is showing cancer free!! Awesome news but news that we hold near to our heart because we have unfortunately seen how quickly the news changes for families.

Since we came to st Jude I have been floored by every aspect of the hospital. Not only are every member of the staff top notch but everyone you come in contact with puts a smile on your face. They listen and they make sure everything is done possible to make you feel safe. But beyond the sense of home this place gives you, they extend a helping hand that goes way beyond my wildest dreams. They provide food, housing (and we are not talking in the hospital— we have an apartment with two bedrooms for the family to live in), travel to and from appointments and anything you can think of. Groceries — they give you a debit card so you can buy groceries for your family. Gas — they reimburse any fuel receipts. Need to go to the store but can’t— they offer a free concierge service to pick up your items and bring to you. Need a night out— free sitter services. I cannot even express how much this place goes above and beyond to take care of the family while they fight cancer. The commercials do not give this place enough credit.

As a family when we sign up for runs, many times we try to do ones that are for a good cause. This is our chance to give back to a place that has done so much for us. It’s giving our baby girl a fighting chance and helping save so many other kids who are battling the same if not worse demons.

Together, our team wants to do more than run. We want to work to support the live-saving mission of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

We're fundraising while we train for our race so we can make a difference in the lives of kids with cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

  • Help us ensure that families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food -- because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
  • Because of donors like us, treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
  • St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.

Join our team and help us reach our fundraising goal for the kids and families at St. Jude!
