As a father of two young children, one of whom has had multiple hospital admissions for respiratory illness, I know firsthand the toll any illness or diagnosis can take on a family. My wife and I have been fortunate to have health insurance through our employers, but when I received a gross hospital bill for more than $150K for my son’s first admission last year, my first thought was how would we have paid for his critical care if we did not have the insurance to cover us. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food -- this is the primary reason I am running this year’s marathon to support St. Jude. They understand the worries and stresses that parents manage alongside a child working to get well. For all of us, a child’s health should be the primary concern, and St. Jude’s mission allows parents to focus on just that.
If you can and wish to donate, I appreciate any contribution (and if not to St. Jude, then any children’s hospital).
