Welcome!! I am so excited to start training HARD and fundraising HARDER to raise money and awareness for St Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
“Why St Judes?” you may be asking. A few months ago, one of my son's friends and fellow Boy Scouts, Colton, was diagnosed with Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma. Colton was accepted to St Jude's in Memphis and has been undergoing both chemotherapy and radiation therapy since early November. Our family prays for Colton, his whole family, and the medical team providing care for him every day but also continue to look for ways to boost morale and support them from afar.
St Jude's is truly an amazing organization. Not only do they provide cutting edge medical care for children battling cancer - families never receive a bill from St Judes for treatment, travel, housing, or food. Their philosophy is that all a family should worry about is helping their child live! In addition to caring for children and their families battling cancer today, St Jude's also focuses resources researching and developing treatments that will be used to save lives for years to come. Treatments developed at St Jude's have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since they opened their doors 50 years ago. St Jude's believes in freely sharing these advances with scientists and doctors around the world so that this knowledge can be used to save thousands of children around the globe.
One quote I have heard over and over from families battling cancer is "Fighting cancer is not a sprint...it is a marathon." So here I go - literally off to run further than I have ever run in my life - 26.2 miles - while Colton and his family and so many other families out there battling cancer are running the biggest marathon of their lives.
Please consider donating to sponsor me on this run. Even the smallest contribution can make a huge difference. I will finish my race when I cross the finish line on April 23 but the fight to end childhood cancer continues. Thank you for your support.
