Thanks for visiting my page and supporting St. Jude! I am incredibly excited and honored to be a part of such a great cause and fundraise for an organization that does so much to help and support families during the most difficult time of their lives.
Two years ago, I decided that I wanted to become a marathoner, and at 6’1” 255 pounds, I did not exactly fit the bill of your average runner but as a long-time athlete, I loved the idea of pushing myself both physically and mentally. Immediately, I started researching, found a running plan, and hit the pavement. Initially it was grueling, but I have truly grown to love running, both for the stress relief and the competitive element it adds to my life. So, after numerous Half Marathons, 10ks and 5ks, I finally felt ready to make the commitment and sign up for a marathon. And in my typical fashion, I began researching.
Course maps, overall incline, average temperatures of cities, number of participants, the list went on, but one thing that immediately stood out to me was the idea of running for charity, and in particular, St. Jude. And it hit me, if I am going to spend hours training, why not make those miles count, and run for something bigger than myself. So, I decided to become a ST. JUDE HERO. Because the more I thought and prayed about the situation, it occurred to me that while most people consider a marathon one of the most challenging and difficult things you could do, it absolutely pales in comparison to what these brave kids and their families face on a daily basis. This perspective is what led me to become a St. Jude Hero, and provides motivation and drive every time I lace up my shoes.
It is my belief that the Lord calls us to take up our cross daily and bear the burdens of our brothers and sisters in Christ. And while I cannot even begin to imagine the burden and weight of your child being diagnosed with cancer or some other horrible illness, I figured the very least I can do is stand in that situation with them for at least one day. Further, that I could dedicate every mile I run towards finding a cure, and praying for hope and comfort to families in need of so much more than I could ever provide, but raising money for an organize that provides that comfort, hope, and promise of tomorrow to kids across the country.
That being said, here are a few fast facts about St. Jude:
•Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
•Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90%, and they won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
•St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
My ultimate goal is to raise $100.00 for every mile I run in the race!
Please donate today, to help me reach my goal! Every dollar counts, so please do not think that any donation is too small. Just like a marathon, every single, individual step gets you closer to the finish line!
