Hi Gang - so I cried all year about messing up the ligaments in my left knee at the Disney Half Marathon in February. Today, the knee got the real test....I just finished my St Jude Marathon! Yep, 26.2 miles. I also did the 5k, 10k, and Half Marathon this year....and the knee survived. Full disclosure...I walked a LOT.....I just didn’t want to overdo it. Also, all races were virtual; St Jude sends you an app that tracks you!! Where’s the trust?? Kidding....great app....but I’ll tell you the virtual thing is tough....no other runners around you, so it’s just you out there on the road....pretty (boring) tough.
As many of you know, We lost my big brother Tim in January (before Covid hit) at age 64, and his obituary requested donations to St Jude, so as you look at the scroll on this page, you’ll see a number of tributes to Tim.
Thanks again for your notes of support, and your donations to St Jude. I love hearing from all of you. As I always do, just a quick reminder of St Jude’s model:
- Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live
- Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago.
- St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
Thank you so much for considering St Jude. Stay safe!!
