I am running the St. Jude Memphis Marathon again this year as a St. Jude Hero to fundraise for the kids and families of St. Jude. I’m training to run another marathon which is no easy task, but it doesn't compare to the hard work and pain that kids fighting cancer and their families endure.
Throughout my St. Jude Hero journey, I've had the opportunity to see the inner workings of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital a number of times and met and continue to work closely with many of the amazing ALSAC/St. Jude employees that work tirelessly to fulfill Danny Thomas' dream that "No child should die in the dawn of life." St. Jude is an amazing organization that goes above and beyond to save lives and provide hope and comfort to patients and their families throughout their fight and for the rest of their lives.
I've also had the privilege to meet families whose children have won their battle against cancer and others who have unfortunately passed away. I met a very inspiring St. Jude patient who after beating cancer has continued fighting for others by running and fundraising as a St. Jude Hero. There are a couple of common qualities that every one of these families have and those are resiliency and an incessant focus on helping make sure that no other family has to live through what they did. Their stories inspire me to do everything I can to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's lifesaving mission.
Did you know:
- Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to over 80% since opening. St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer because 1 in 5 children dying from cancer in unacceptable.
- Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
- St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
Please donate today to help me reach my goal of raising $5,000 for St. Jude to provide the resources it needs to fulfill Danny Thomas' dream and continue to provide hope to families whose children are currently fighting for their lives. Even when I finish the race, the fight to end childhood cancer continues.
Thank you for your continued support. It means the world to me and even more to the families directly impacted by St. Jude.
