I am a St. Jude Hero! I have chosen to run for a reason bigger than myself by fundraising for the kids and families at St. Jude. I am training to cross the finish line on race day and with your donation we can cross the fundraising finish line together because the money you donate helps find a cure for childhood cancer.
Just this past semester I was on the way to visit the hospital for the second time with Tri Delta. I had no idea what was in store for the day. We got a little turned around on the way there and ended up arriving later than expected. Once we got there, we were able to watch a few videos about St. Jude and make “no more chemo bags” which is what patients get when they finish their last chemo treatment. Once we finished with that, we started our tour of the hospital. There weren’t many people out and about in the hospital as it was a Sunday. Once the tour was over, we were headed over to look at the Tri Delta Place before we left. While standing outside, we looked up to see a family waving and holding signs that said “we love Tri Deltas.” This gave me chills instantly; just knowing that my sisters and I have made such an impact on other families is amazing. The patient, his sister, and his dad came downstairs to speak with us. As it turns out, that was their second time to be at St. Jude. They thanked us for everything we do for the hospital and told us how unbelievably grateful they were. As a group, we circled around the patient and his family and prayed for them. Originally our trip was scheduled for the day before but had to be moved. We would have never gotten to talk and pray with this family had the day and scheduling gone any different. This is a moment that I will cherish forever, and one of the many reasons that I signed up as a St Jude hero.
Did you know:
- Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
- Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90%, and they won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
- St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
Donate today to help me reach my goal. Even when the race is over, the fight to end childhood cancer continues.
