Jordan Powers, the daughter of a friend and my legacy baby, received her angel wings from a rare brain tumor on October 12, 2014. Her diagnosis was a year earlier in October 2013. So, when Ironman announced its partnership with St. Jude for the inaugural 70.3 in October 2020, I knew it was not a coincidence. It was my time to "toe the line" for a true endurance event.
I am a St. Jude Hero honoring Jordan – the nine year old who lit up the room with her exuberant personality, sparkling eyes, radiant smile and incessant curiosity. This commitment is a physical and financial challenge that will stretch me beyond what I can ever imagine.
My Goal: On Saturday, October 3, 2020, I will be a 70.3 Ironman Finisher after raising $7,500 in Jordan's honor. Yes, as a sexagenarian, I will swim 1.2 miles, bike 56 miles and run 13.1 miles in 7 to 8 hours.Your donation could help cover the cost of lifesaving chemotherapy treatment, or provide necessities for parents who may have hurriedly left home after their child's diagnosis. Here are just a few examples of how your gift could be used to support our patients and their families:
- $10 - a new play area toy
- $30 - meals for a St. Jude family
- $57 - necessities when far from home
- $100 - one pair of pediatric crutches
- $250 - one red blood cell transfusion
- $500 - one hour of physical therapy
Help me honor Jordan by donating any amount today. Even when the race is over, the fight to end childhood cancer continues. Thank you for your financial, emotional and spiritual support. My stretch will take a village!
