Over the last 3 years, Alicia and I have supported and fallen in love with St. Jude Research Hospital. We have learned more about the hospital and the services they provide. Not only to the families fortunate enough to be treated at the hospital, but how they share their treatment protocols with Children’s Hospitals around the world to help stop the impact of childhood cancer.
This year is even more special to us because we walked our own journey through cancer. Alicia was diagnosed with Hairy Cell Leukemia in March of this year and subsequently went through chemo therapy.
As adults, this journey was challenging, and it made us appreciate just how heart wrenching it would be to go through as a parent.
We are especially grateful that Alicia’s treatment was successful and she will be able to join me again in Memphis to participate in the 5k run during the St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend!!
This experience has driven us to want to do even more to take some of the burden away from these families, and we are doing that by continuing our support to St. Jude.
Did you know:
- Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
- Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90%, and they won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
- St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
Donate today to help me reach my goal. Even when the race is over, the fight to end childhood cancer continues.
