The 26.2 dream for me bloomed in November 2002, I was 18 and doing volunteer work in Brooklyn. Some friends and I were roaming the streets of Manhattan when we heard roaring crowds, we curiously followed the sounds and stumbled upon the NYC Marathon. It was an incredible sight to see; the intense emotions from the runners and the incredible support from the crowd. I. WAS. INSPIRED. I added it to my bucket list that day. (Did I mention I wasn’t a runner?!)
12 years and 3 kiddos later I stumbled into running as a way to live a healthier lifestyle. What started as a task I despised slowly turned into my passion, the calm to my crazy.
The idea of pursuing those 26.2 miles slowly crept its way back into my mind.
Fast forward to 2020; here I am at 36 and finally taking the plunge to run the NYC Marathon. As a full time working mom to 4 kiddos this is an ambitious goal, but my heart is full of hope and my spirit is fired up. Cheers to making my 18 year old self proud.
Since the dream started while I was spending my time volunteering I’ve decided to dedicate my 26.2 miles to a beautiful charity, St. Jude.
As a mother and a individual that works with youth this charity holds a dear place in my heart. Please consider donating to this wonderful organization.
Did you know:
- Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
- Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
- St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
Donate today to help me reach my goal. Even when the race is over, the fight to end childhood cancer continues.
