Kimberly and I are running in the St. Jude 2020 Memphis Marathon Weekend as a St. Jude Hero to support St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's lifesaving mission: Finding cures. Saving children. We want to help make sure that families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing, or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. We need your support to help reach our fundraising goal.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is near and dear to our family. In May 2014, our youngest twin son, Bryce (pictured on the left), was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a rare type of brain cancer. After Bryce completed radiation treatments, he started chemotherapy treatments in September. In late October 2014, his twin brother, Alex (pictured on the right), was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma too. In December 2014, Bryce completed chemotherapy and Alex completed radiation. In mid-January, Bryce’s cancer came back and we were out of treatment options. Late January 2015, Bryce passed away.
A week later, Alex started his chemotherapy treatments. In mid-June 2015, Alex had his final scans after completing his chemotherapy treatments. Scans revealed his cancer had returned and there were no other options available. In late June, Alex passed away.
Because of St. Jude, we didn't receive any medical bills but instead received complete support for our whole family. This included school for the boys during their treatments, gift cards for groceries, medications and medical supplies, shuttles to/from appointments, plenty of activities, and visits with therapy dogs. They even offered school services to help our daughter (pictured in the middle) stay up-to-date with her schooling. We also had an apartment to live in rent-free, from the Ronald McDonald House and the Target House Foundation. St. Jude blessed our family with unconditional love, hope, and supported our whole family during the boys' cancer treatments; we will always be a St. Jude family.
St. Jude is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Thanks to donors like you:
- Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
- Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90%, and they won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
- St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
Did you know that the daily operating cost for St. Jude is over $2 million? That means your donation, no matter what the size, will help!
Thank you for your help and support!
We love and miss the boys each and every day.
