I am again asking for your support in the fight against childhood cancer. Due to the pandemic, I am changing up my event for this year. For years I ran obstacle course races from Mount Snow, Long Island and many points in between to raise money, however it started with me running/walking 33 miles from Huntington to Brooklyn to raise money for these wonderful children from 2003-2006 after losing my grandmother to cancer. So,this year I have chosen to do a long walk (approximately 26-28 miles)from Bethel to Westport on 5/15.
While I have been blessed with two healthy children that are now young men, there are many parents who are not so fortunate, but I know what these children must endure as a cancer survivor myself. Please join me in supporting this great medical institution. Not only has St. Jude become one of the leading children's cancer centers in the world, but no family ever pays for treatment.
I have been training nearly everyday since finishing my treatment 20 years ago. I have walked at least 6 miles every day for a full year and strength train four days a week. I am committed to continue to raise money for these beautiful children because they are worth every minute of the training. It is hard to believe that prior to my own diagnosis in 2000 that I was not very active at all and after completing treatment I was 243 pounds and had difficulty doing much of anything physically. We together have come a long way, having raised over $95,000 since finishing my own treatment.
Some St Jude facts important to note:
- Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
- Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
- St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
Please donate and help me reach my goal! Thank you, for everything I do is only possible through the support of my friends.
