A DECADE OF CHANGE:
By the time this event takes place in early December of 2019, I will have carried the torch as a St. Jude Hero for a full decade. It all began with a total life Transformation in early 2010 when I made the decision to lay down a decades-long addiction to alcohol and take control of my health, mind/body/spirit. I ran my first Half Marathon as a St. Jude Hero in January of 2011 at Rock & Roll Arizona. Since then, my passion for this cause has only increased. It was born of my desire to transform a life of self-destructive behavior into one of making a powerful positive difference in the lives of others. I am driven by my determination to be a force for good in this world.
There was a time when my addictive behaviors fueled a lifestyle of selfishness. I cared little about the plight of others. Today, in my sobriety, I work tirelessly to champion this cause. These are innocent children battling for survival against a deadly disease they had no hand in bringing upon themselves. They deserve the chance to LIVE, to have more birthdays and create more memories.
I have set my sights on a very challenging fundraising goal. I originally targeted $10,000 for 10-years of Sobriety and 10-years running as a St. Jude Hero (POWER-OF-10). I knew that was a lofty goal, but within reach, and one I'd do everything in my power to make a reality. Thanks to your generosity we hit that number in June, a full 6 months ahead of schedule. Together there's nothing we can't accomplish. I am committed to doing everything I can and I pray you will partner with me. Together we bring Hope and Healing to these children and their families.
- NOW LET'S SHOOT FOR THE STARS!!! In just 6 months' time we accomplished what I believed would require the entirety of 12 months. Because I don't have it in me to stop there I've increased the goal to $15,000? I have no doubt that with your help, we can hit that number prior to December.
Did you know:
* Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
* Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90%, and they won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
* St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save more children. Donate today to help me reach my goal. Even when the race is over, the fight to end childhood cancer continues.
