For the 11th year in a row I will be traveling to Memphis this December to take part in the Marathon Week end. This year I am registered for the full marathon. This will be my 5th time training for a full. It is definitely a big commitment as far as time goes, and there is some pain that goes along with it, but I always tell myself nothing compares to the pain of a child fighting cancer.
I'm choosing once again to run for more than myself. I don't consider myself a runner, but I use it as a tool to help others. I'm using my running to help save kids' lives by fundraising for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as I train. I'm running for kids who might be too sick to run today, but who could one day be running alongside me because the money I raised helped find a cure for childhood cancer.
- Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
- Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude is working to drive the overall survival rate for childhood cancer to 90%, and they won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
I know first hand what an amazing place St. Jude is. My sweet Sophie was a patient in 2007 and the care she received there was like no other. We knew a cure for Sophie's terminal brain cancer was not likely, but we did everything we could as parents to try and save her. We were devastated the day God called her home - October 6, 2007, just 7.5 months after diagnosis. You can read more about Sophie at http://smilesforsophie.blogspot.com and more about our foundation SFSF at www.sfsf.org
I run and raise money because I don't want another child or family to go through what we did. I want a cure for every type of cancer and catastrophic disease. St. Jude has an amazing facility to do research to find cures. They need us to support them in their endeavors so that no child will die in the dawn of life.
Please donate and help me reach my goal, and if you are so compelled, sharing this page would further my reach.
Thank you so much.
