This is my FIFTH St Jude Marathon. I honestly never thought I would be able to say that. I am humbled and amazed by all the support I have received over the years.
And since this is the first time I'm putting my fundraising out publicly I will give a bit of a background on why this is so important to my family.
In June of 2008 my then 2 year old was diagnosed with leukemia. But it did not present like a typical leukemia. Later we found out that had she been diagnosed earlier it would have been classified as a lymphoblastic lymphoma and treated with short term chemo and radiation with a pretty big risk for relapse. Due to the research of St Jude Children's hospital- they discovered that treating it as a leukemia with long term chemo increased the remission rate with no greater chance of relapse than any other pre-b cell leukemia.
Ally will be 15 this summer and I am so very thankful for all the folks who came before to raise money and research pediatric cancers. Over the last 12 years we have met many families impacted by childhood cancer and not everyone's story has a happy ending. Continuing the legacy for these kids is my honor and together we can make sure all kids with pediatric cancer can grow up to fulfill their dreams.
Did you know:
* Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food - because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
* Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80% since it opened more than 50 years ago. St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
* St. Jude freely shares the discoveries it makes, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
Donate today to help me reach my goal. Even when the race is over, the fight to end childhood cancer continues.
