A loving daughter, wife, mom, sister and grandmother, Elmerinda Scialabba left this world on February 3, 2022. Ellie's life was filled with wonderful accomplishments as a professional. Born in 1933 in Brooklyn New York, the second of five children, she was a pioneering female physician who graduated from Women’s Medical College in Pennsylvania, the first in her family to attend college. As a pediatrics resident at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, she met the love of her life Dominick, to whom she was married for 47years before his death in 2009. Trained as a pediatrician, she chose to specialize in pediatric neurology, working as the Director of Woodbridge State School, later as the Medical Director for United Cerebral Palsy of Union County New Jersey. She was devoted to her patients, who appreciated her kindness and concern for their well-being.
Her life at home was also filled with love and accomplishments. She and Dom caringly raised three children, Fred, Damian, and Marion, all of whom became professionals in Medicine, Law, and Dentistry respectively. Each married loving spouses, Annette, Brenda, and John, bringing seven grandchildren into Ellie’s life and a special sparkle to her eyes. Ellie, Dom, Christie, Dom, Emily, Garrett, and Logan all knew that Grandma had a heart filled with love for them; she had the chance to enjoy over a quarter of century as a grandmother. Even after her husband Dominick died, she remained vibrant and active mentally, although physical limitations gradually cramped her style. To the end, she remained mentally strong and conversational, surely a blessing.
As someone who dedicated much of her professional life to helping those with disabilities, she had a special spot in her heart for those less fortunate. Indeed, she would frustrate her children waiting to celebrate Christmas while she wrote myriad checks to innumerable charities she couldn't refuse. She would be proud to know that appreciation for her life at her passing would lead to good works for children in need.
