October 29, 1949 - January 14, 2022
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many, Kenneth O. Brewer passed away Friday, January 14, 2022 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington, NC after a battle with cancer. Ken was born on October 29, 1949 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He enlisted in the Marine Corps at 17 having his mother sign for him. He proudly served his country at Hill 881 South in Viet Nam and earned numerous medals including the Navy Achievement Medal/Combat V, a Presidential Unit Citation and the Purple Heart.
He held numerous jobs after his military service starting as a mechanic and rising to National Telemarketing Manager, U.S. and Canada, with R.L. Polk at their Headquarters in Detroit, Michigan. He purchased a franchise in 1994 which he and our sons operated for 10 years until he was able to return to his wife's home state of North Carolina in 2004, settling in Blounts Creek. He then took a job selling document solutions for Ikon Office Solutions and finally worked part time at Office Depot in Washington until his retirement on April Fool's Day in 2013. Those in the community might not remember his name but he was known by many as "The Office Depot Man" because of his superior customer service and sense of humor.
Ken never met a stranger, loved to dance, boat on the Pamlico, spend time with his wife of 31 years, Pamela and their two rescued Yorkies. They spent many summer afternoons on the patio at Down on Main enjoying the sun, the view and a drink or two. They made friends with Glen and Gennia and all of the outstanding staff where they always felt welcomed and loved. A special thank you to all of them.
He was extraordinarily proud of our two sons. His oldest, Jason Brewer (Linda) of Dexter, MI and our two amazing and talented grandsons, Aidan and Beau. His youngest, Jamison Daniel "J.D." Brewer(Betsy) of Apex, NC and our beautiful and loving granddaughter, Cameron and our fun loving and charming grandson, Cash. He was thankful for his sister-in-law and her husband, Linda Krooswyk (Bill) of Moncks Corner, SC who provided much love and support during the last months of his life and his final hours. Special thanks to Corinne and Bob Donovan of Yorktown, VA and Valerie and Rodney Simpson of Blounts Creek for all of their support and love. Ken never stopped smiling, joking and always had a positive, cheerful outlook on life. He was loved by many. He will be missed by many.
