Kathleen Mary Nielsen, 62, of Wauconda, passed away on April 21, 2021 at home with her family by her side.
She was born November 20, 1958 in Highland Park, Illinois, to Herb and Mary Sue Didier. She graduated with an Associates degree from Gateway Technical Institute in food service management and managed a catering company. Kathy married her husband, Eric Nielsen, on October 25, 1986 and together they operated Nielsen’s Berry Farm until 2006. They raised their daughter, Amy, and two sons, Scott and Tom teaching them hard work, love, and kindness through example.
Kathy enjoyed card games with her family, book club with her sisters, and mahjong with her friends. When Kathy wasn’t spending time with her loved ones, she was busy planning her next sewing project. She was a member of the Lake County Association for Home and Community Education for 23 years. Kathy had a gentle heart, was a fearless fighter, and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband, Eric, her three loving children, Amy (Steve), Scott, and Tom; her cherished grandchildren, Dylan and Nora; her mother, Mary Sue; her sisters, Mary Lee, Mellode, Sue, and Joan; her brothers, Herb, John, Rick, and David; and all of her nieces, nephews, and extended family that she held dearly. Kathy was preceded in death by her father, Herb.
