On January 9th, 2021 Dr. Leslie Allen passed away unexpectedly at his home at the age of 65.
He was born on June 15th, 1955, in Basseterre, St. Kitts, to James and Eliza Allen. He moved to the United States at age 17, received a Bachelor’s in Political Science from Columbia University in 1980 and a medical degree from UCE in the Dominican Republic in 1984. He completed a pediatric residency at Interfaith Medical Center and a Neonatology Fellowship at SUNY-Downstate. He began his attending career at North Shore University Hospital in 1992, served as chief of Neonatology at Glen Cove and Plainview Hospitals. He also worked at Forest Hills and Huntington Hospitals.
Leslie was one of the main Neonatologists at South Shore University Hospital. Although he officially retired in July 2020, he continued to assist the hospitals with coverage.
Dr. Leslie Allen dedicated his entire adult life to helping and caring for children. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
