On Tuesday, August 4 my father Sergio Magadan Rodriguez passed away as cancer took him from us. My dad always taught me to be strong and trust in one another. Those two things were what I saw him do for over a year, day by day. Despite unsuccessful surgeries, constant chemo treatment, and various alternative medicine attempts, my dad fought to be with us as long as possible.
Growing up he would take me every Sunday to watch him play baseball with my uncle, cousins, and friends. He constantly desired to live his life by always doing what made him happy. This included not only watching me and my siblings take on his favorite sport but also being our coach and number one fan.
Although my dad struggled and had days were he was down, his desire to want to be there for his family was his drive. He now is at peace and living in spirit with no pain, all he ever wanted.
From the Magadan family, we thank everyone for the kind words of support and love. You have allowed us to not feel alone throughout this hard time.
In lieu of flowers or monetary support, as a family, we are asking that you make a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in support of cancer treatment and research in honor of my father. No child should have to experience the pain and struggles that come with being diagnosed with cancer. We hope through this we are able to allow a child to be a child and live their life to the fullest extent and play baseball.
