St. Jude is an organization for which we are forever grateful. As a family, we are passionate about doing what we can to support the incredible care and research at the heart of its mission.
The Cleveland Yachting Club is more than just a club to us, it is a supportive community of friends and families who go out of their way for others and for the community. The Charity Cup Regatta is a time-honored Cleveland Yachting Club Tradition. For 2023, we are beyond thrilled to share that CYC has chosen St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as its beneficiary partner.
As many of you know, our son, Fletcher Rollinson, was diagnosed at age 11 with a rare form of brain cancer, a pineal parenchymal tumor of intermediate differentiation. Fletcher was the 6th case of PPTID that St. Jude had seen, and there was no existing protocol for treatment. While at St. Jude, Fletcher's medical treatment included two brain surgeries, proton radiation and chemotherapy, in addition to overall round-the-clock monitoring, physical therapy, occupational therapy, neurocognitive testing, gene testing, endocrinology support, psychological support, optometry, audiology and dental treatment and countless other patient support services. Not once was a treatment denied while we waited for our insurance to approve a test. If approval wasn't immediately granted, St. Jude performed what Fletcher needed anyway.
In addition to the medical care Fletcher received, St. Jude went out of its way to ensure we had our all of our other needs met. During our time there, we were provided housing, meals, and transportation when needed. Fletcher was able to attend an on-site school in order to keep up with his class at home, and his teachers even came to his hospital room during chemo (when he felt well enough) to ensure he kept up with his work. St. Jude regularly planned social events for patients and patient families, campus visits from athletes and entertainers, themed get togethers, accessibility to tickets for area attractions and events, and so much more.
We credit Fletcher's entire team at St. Jude, medical and non-medical, for not only saving his life, but for creating a treatment environment that allowed him to be where he is today: happy and healthy. Research gained from Fletcher's tumor will benefit other patients facing a similar diagnosis, both at St. Jude and other hospitals, and hopefully pave the way for an established treatment protocol.
We'd be honored and grateful if you would consider donating and/or attending our regatta events. Together we can help St. Jude change the world.
