This fundraiser for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is in honor of someone close to our VCU lacrosse family, Margot Mott.
Our Director of Operations, Hanna Schuler, and her family received heartbreaking news after Hanna’s cousin, Megan Mott, learned that her 2-year-old daughter, Margot, was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor.
On September 26th, 2023 Megan and Riley Mott received devastating news that their 2-year-old, Margot, had a large brain tumor requiring surgical removal. Within a couple of days they were given more devastating news: Margot was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer called Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (AT/RT), with a survival rate of only 32%. Determined to give Margot the best chance of survival, Megan and Riley opted for treatment at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Margot arrived at St. Jude on October 16th, 2023, where she was greeted with welcoming arms and received comprehensive care including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and chemotherapy. St. Jude provided unparalleled support to Margot and her family, offering housing free of charge as well as treatments.
Despite her courageous battle, Margot passed away on January 8th, 2024. She was a cherished daughter, sister, and granddaughter who brought joy to everyone she met.
To honor Margot, the VCU Lacrosse team will pay tribute to her on March 16th at 1pm at Cary St. Field as they compete against George Mason University. We kindly ask for your support by making a donation in honor of Margot.
