St. Jude holds a special place in our family's heart, as we credit it with saving the life of Lilly's best friend, Zoe Oliver, who's beat leukemia twice, and received a bone marrow transplant (from her sister) there. We also recently found out that a St Jude doctor saved Joshua's life when he was five years old. He was very sick and in the hospital for weeks, basically wasting away, and no one could figure out what was wrong with him. His parents took him to another hospital and there happened to be a doctor visiting from St Jude that day. That doctor took a look at Joshua, examined him, and asked if he had been tested for Lyme disease. His mother said "no, no doctor has even asked!" Sure enough, Joshua had Lyme disease, and once they knew that information, he was able to get the medicine needed, and was finally on a path to recovery. Of course, Joshua has lived with Lyme ever since, but it doesn't hold him back in any way, minus some fatigue here and there.
Joshua has loved running since high school, and it is still his passion all these years later. He has done countless marathons, half marathons, group relays, run down the back of Pike's Peak in Colorado, and so many more things I can't even begin to list! He's an adrenaline junkie, loves to do crazy things, and is a "go big or go home" kind of guy! He wants to help people and will do so, even if it means pushing his body to the limit, especially knowing what the kids at St Jude go through just during their treatments alone. That's why he's decided to run from Charlotte, NC to Nashville, TN, and is hoping to do the 410 miles on foot in two weeks time (if he stays on pace of 30 miles/day), and he'd love your support! I am such a proud wife knowing he's going to do this, and can't wait to be out on the road with him, in the RV, trailing along with our girls and a small support crew. But we need your help! Please consider supporting this mission, and know it's going to a great cause! xo, Miranda
I am raising funds to support St. Jude's life saving mission of finding cures for children battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases, and I need your help to reach my fundraising goal. Why $83,000? Because '83 is the year that the St Jude doctor saved my life. I know it's a HUGE goal, but this is a huge amount of mileage and I feel in my heart it can be done! Why am I running from Charlotte to Nashville? We live in Charlotte, but I'm also a Nashville guy at heart. When I was a kid, I lived in a town outside of it called Mt. Juliet, and loved it. That's why when I started doing marathons, I picked Nashville's Music City Marathon as my yearly one to do, whether it was the full or half, and I think I've done 10 out of the last 14 years! My profile picture is of one of those marathons, and Miranda always hands Isabella and Lilly to me (if she can) to cross the finish line at LP field! Well, now they can hop the barriers and run them with me :) Miranda also has family who lives there, and has for decades, so we always stay for several days and make a trip out of it! We've always said that if we ever left Charlotte, it would only be for Nashville! I'll be ending the run at Riverfront Park at the end of Broadway by the River on June 14th at 2pm and would love to see smiling faces if you're in Nashville or can make it! Thanks for all of your support, Joshua
