I've been blessed with having had a whole, whole lot of birthdays. And blessed with all the material things I truly need. So, this year I'm doing something different for my birthday: I'm dedicating it to the kids of St. Jude.
I'm also blessed with two healthy kids of my own: Parks, 17, and Wren, 12.
I hope my family never needs the life-saving services of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, but I feel personally obligated to help ensure St. Jude is there for kids battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Help me out by NOT giving me a gift this year. Give the kids of St. Jude a gift instead — the gift of another birthday.
Why St. Jude?
Since opening in 1962, treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to 80 percent. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing and food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
That's right: the best care in the world, for free, because of people like us. Now that's something worth celebrating.
Let's get this party started.
