WFRE – 99.9 Frederick's Free Country – is proud to be partnered with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital through their St. Jude Heroes Program. We are Walking For Reasons Everywhere, sponsored by Massage Envy of Frederick and Frederick Foot and Ankle.
Each of our team members is walking (or now running!) to help children battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases at St. Jude. Because St. Jude helps kids from all across the country, including those from our own communities, it truly is a hospital without walls. It's because of these kids that we train and fundraise in various races including the St. Jude Country Music Marathon & Half Marathon, Frederick Running Festival, Marine Corps Marathon and many other local and national races. The great thing is you can walk or run as a St. Jude Hero in any event you choose as a member of Team WFRE.
If you thought you never could complete a half marathon — that's 13.1 miles — or even a 5k, think again! Last year, Team WFRE supported people of all shapes and sizes who came out and finished a race for the kids. We'd love for you to come out to one of our group training walk/runs and try it out as well — everyone is welcome to join us!
"Team WFRE is a group of passionate people who love to fundraise, run races and support St Jude. The last couple of years we have become more like a family that has come together to support the kids at St Jude. WFRE is blessed to have such passionate and generous people."

"One day, I was listening to an advertisement on 99.9 WFRE asking for individuals to sign-up and participate in the St. Jude Country Music Marathon in Nashville, TN. I had never participated in any type of running/walking event. I took it as a personal challenge to see if I could do a half-marathon and since it was for a good cause I signed up. My goal was to raise $2,500 for the event and I wasn't even sure how or if I could do that. Once I signed up, I had friends making suggestions on activities and fundraisers I could do to raise the money. Much to my surprise, I was able to raise over $5,300 that year. Our team started training in January of that year for the event and I really enjoyed meeting the other St. Jude Heroes who had signed up for our team. On the day of the event, it poured down rain the entire time and yet when I crossed the finish line, the only thing I could think about was signing up again for the following year."

How the money you raise helps kids battling cancer at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital:
- Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing and food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
- St. Jude freely shares the breakthroughs we make, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.
- Because the majority of St. Jude funding comes from individual contributors, St. Jude has the freedom to focus on what matters most — saving kids regardless of their financial situation.
Thanks for your support! We hope you join us at one of our upcoming races!
