Eye-opening is the best way to describe my trip to St. Jude for a Tri Delta leadership conference back in January of 2012 (Tri Delta has been partnered philanthropically with St. Jude since 1999). The facility is enormous, and is dedicated to helping find a cure for all types of childhood cancer. From the patient rooms, the common-areas for kids to hang out between their treatments, and even the suites for families to stay while they have a child receiving treatment made this place feel like a home away from home rather than a creepy, cold, uninviting hospital. The fact that no family will ever receive a bill for their child's treatment is the icing on the cake of why I am so passionate about helping support this hospital. The ability that they give these families to simply devote their time and energy to their sick loved one, rather than the stress of having to pay for treatment, is incredibly inspiring.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is such an amazing place, and I am honored to be participating in this 5K again. This year I've decided to take my fundraising efforts to the other side of the country. I will be participating in the St. Jude Walk/Run in Los Angeles this Fall, and I need your support! Please consider donating to help the kids of St. Jude.
Why St. Jude?
- Thanks to our supporters, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for anything.
- St. Jude has helped push the overall survival rate for childhood cancer from less than 20% when we first opened our doors to 80% today. St. Jude won't stop until no child dies from cancer.
